Twitter is ordered by a French judge to inform how many resources it is committing to moderation in France. This requires the social media company to reveal how many moderators it employs for the country and to reveal some of their personal details.

In 2020, a group of French organizations fighting racism, homophobia, anti-Semitism and hatred filed a lawsuit against Twitter in France. They then suggested that the social networking company was doing too little against hate speech and demanded, among other things, that Twitter publicly disclose the number of French-speaking moderators it employed.

The court in Paris ruled in favor of the accusers last summer and, according to Le Monde, Twitter was given two months after that lawsuit to release the necessary documents listing the means the company used in France to counter hate speech on the platform. to go. According to that judgment, Twitter also had to disclose the number of moderators for the French content on Twitter, as well as some of their personal data such as location, nationality and language of communication.

Twitter appealed that ruling last year, arguing that their moderation system was working properly. The company is now obliged to respect the judgment of the French court on appeal. In a response to the press, Twitter said that the safety of its users is the top priority within the company and that it is further investigating the ruling of the French court.
