Developer Naughty Dog is looking for a programmer to help with The Last of Us Part II. They are looking for a programmer who has experience with DX12 and modern GPUs from AMD and Nvidia, which suggests that the game will appear for Windows.

The ad on LinkedIn does not state plainly that The Last of Us II will be released for Windows, but it does give the impression. Developer Naughty Dog is looking for a graphics programmer to help the Santa Monica studio develop The Last of Us II. Candidates are expected to have ‘in-depth knowledge of modern GPU architecture such as AMD GCN and Nvidia Cuda’. In addition, the candidate must have an understanding of graphical APIs such as Vulkan and DX12. Since it is known that both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5 have a GPU from AMD on board, the package of requirements suggests that the team is working on a Windows version of The Last of Us II.

That is not entirely unexpected. Less than a week ago, rumors surfaced that Guerrilla Games is working on a Windows version of Horizon: Zero Dawn. In addition, Sony previously announced smaller games that will be released for both PlayStation and Windows. For example, Sony announced in August 2019 that dungeon crawler ReadySet Heroes will not only be released for PlayStation 4, but that a Windows version will also be sold via the Epic Store. At the same time, Shawn Layden, then head of Sony’s Worldwide Studios, said more games will be released on platforms other than PlayStation. Layden’s position has since been taken over by Hermen Hulst, former head of Guerrilla Games.

The Last of Us II will be released on May 29. For now only for PlayStation 4. Officially nothing is known about possible versions for PlayStation 5 or Windows.
