Acer shows new laptops aimed at students

Acer has unveiled three new laptops, intended for the education market. It concerns two Windows models and a Chromebook. One of the Windows models is a convertible and they should all take a beating.

The two Windows variants, the TravelMate B3 and the TravelMate Spin B3, have 11.6-inch screens with a resolution of 1366 by 768 pixels, according to Windows Central. Under the hoods are processors from Intel’s Celeron and Pentium line, all of the Gemini Lake Refresh generation. Maximum speeds vary from 2.6GHz to 3.1GHz and the amount of cores from 2 to 4. The working memory is DDR4 and varies in size from 4GB to 8GB. There is also up to 256GB of flash-based storage, support for ac-wifi with mu-mimo and bluetooth 5.0.

In addition to a touchscreen, the convertible also has a stylus with its own dock. Acer states that the laptops are intended and suitable for primary and secondary school students. With a battery life of 12 hours, the laptops should last a full school day, according to the manufacturer. They must also withstand shock and the pressure of a child stepping on them, in accordance with the MIL-STD-810G standard. Prices start at $239 for the TravelMate B3 and $329 for the TravelMate B3 Spin. Euro prices for these laptops are not yet known. Availability in the US starts in April.

The Chromebook has a 12″ IPS screen with a resolution of 1366 by 912 pixels. Just like the TravelMate B3 Spin, this is a convertible. The screen can therefore be flipped 180 degrees so that you are more or less dealing with a tablet. According to NeoWin, this Chromebook, the Chromebook 712, can be equipped with a Core i3-10110U or a Pentium Gold 6405U. The first is a dual-core with hyperthreading and a maximum speed of 4.1GHz and the second also has a 2c/4t CPU. with a speed of 2.4GHz.Memory varies from 4GB to 8GB and storage is 32GB or 64GB-emmc.The Chromebook will receive a starting price of 299 euros, according to NeoWin.
