Tencent Holdings, China’s largest social media and gaming company, will be stricter in checking whether players are underage. Beginning September 15, Honor of Kings players must register using their real name. The company’s other games will follow after that.

According to Reuters, Tencent announced on Friday that it will introduce a registration system that requires the real name of the player to be registered. The system will be connected to a Chinese government database. If you are a minor, you can automatically only play the game for a limited time per day.

It is the first time that a company from China’s game industry is doing this, Tencent reports. Tencent’s decision comes a week after calls were made to limit play time, partly because of increasing myopia among Chinese children.

Tencent Holdings’ most famous game is Honor of Kings, currently the most played mobile game in China with 200 million players. The People’s Daily, the Communist Party newspaper, called the game “poison” and called for stricter regulation of online games.

In response to the ruling, Tencent took measures to reduce playing time among minors. Since July, children under the age of 12 are not allowed to play for more than one hour a day. There is a limit of two hours per day for 13 to 18 year olds.
