Telltale Games has announced it will be closing, a decision followed by the layoff of most of its staff. For the time being, 25 people will continue to work at Telltale to meet certain obligations.

The company has made a statement released in which it explains that the game studio is closing after a year full of problems it was ultimately unable to resolve. This also means that approximately 250 people will be laid off immediately, approximately 90 percent of the total workforce. Only 25 people will continue to work at Telltale Games to meet commitments to partners and the board. It is not clear from the released information which obligations these are.

Now that Telltale has decided to close the studio, the games the company was working on seem no longer to be released either. More will be known about the decision in the coming weeks, but sources have already indicated to US Gamer that the final season of The Walking Dead will be cancelled.

Work was also underway on The Wolf Among Us 2 and Stranger Things, and it is likely that these games will also be canceled. According to US Gamer sources, Minecraft Story Mode, something the company is developing for Netflix, is still being worked on.

Last year there was also a major layoff, in which a quarter of the staff was laid off. According to Telltale, that was necessary at the time to remain competitive. In the end, this turns out not to have helped.
