After 33 consecutive months, the PlayStation 5 has dethroned the Nintendo Switch as the best-selling console in absolute numbers in the US, according to analyst Mat Piscatella. The PS5 was the top seller in America last month, in absolute numbers and in dollars.

“The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console last month in absolute numbers, as well as in dollars,” writes analyst Mat Piscatella from NPG Group on Twitter. According to the analyst, this ends the 33 consecutive months that the Nintendo Switch was the most sold in the US in absolute numbers. Exactly how many of both consoles were sold in September and how much they earned in the US is not mentioned.

According to Piscatella, it is the first time since November 2018 that any other console, outside the Nintendo Switch, has sold the most in absolute numbers in the US. At the time it was about the PlayStation 4. The Nintendo Switch remains the best-selling console of 2021 in absolute numbers, while the PS5 in 2021 yielded the most in dollars.
