The successor to the Meta Quest 2-VR headset will be released next year. Meta announced this during the presentation of its quarterly figures. The Quest 2 was released in the fall of 2020, the first Quest was released in the spring of 2019.

This means that the successor to the Quest 2 will have to wait between 2.5 and 3 years. The cost of its Reality Labs division has risen quite a bit with the upcoming release, says Meta. The company has already hired many people this year, and the division’s losses are set to increase further next year. In any case, Meta took on a lot of people: the workforce grew by 28 percent to more than 87,000 employees.

Meta already released the Quest Pro this fall, a more expensive VR headset that is mainly intended for companies and business use. The successor to the Quest 2 will once again be a consumer and gaming oriented product.

Meta’s sales declined slightly to $27.7 billion, mainly due to the dollar exchange rate. Without exchange rate fluctuations, turnover would have increased slightly compared to the same period last year, the company claims. Net income halved to $4.4 billion, mainly due to increased costs. The number of daily and monthly users of Meta products grew slightly. In total, 3.71 billion people now use one or more Meta services every month, an increase of 3 percent.
