Sony wants to add passkey support to PlayStation Network. This makes it possible for users to log in to the service without a password. The option does not appear to be available at this time.

Currently, users still need to log in to PlayStation Network with a password and optional two-step verification, but Wednesday Sony published an article stating that PlayStation users can now also use passkeys. This allows users to log in without a password by scanning their fingerprint or face instead, for example.

Sony says that users can add passkeys via the PSN account settings, although the option does not appear to be available at this time. Also, the support page mentioned in the article is not yet live at the time of writing. So it is not yet clear when users will be able to activate passkeys on their PlayStation accounts.

The FIDO Alliance introduced passkeys in 2022. This passwordless way of logging in would be more secure because passwords could easily be stolen. In addition to Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft and Google, among others, already work with passkeys. The latter recently made passkeys the default login method.
