Sony has planned an event to announce a new, expensive model in its Xperia line of smartphones. The online event will take place next Thursday. Recently there have been rumors about an Xperia 5 II, a new version of last year’s Xperia 5.

Sony has put a video on YouTube for next Thursday and the hold image only shows horizontal lines, without giving away anything about the phone itself. In a previous rumor it has already emerged that Sony would like to present the Xperia 5 II on Thursday next week, so it stands to reason that this is the phone. In addition, the color scheme of the horizontal lines on the YouTube hold image matches that of the renders of the phone.

The Xperia 5 II differs from previous models by a 120Hz OLED screen, where Sony used 60Hz screens until now. According to that source, Android Headlines, the phone will be 158x68x8mm and, according to the site, is a fraction thinner than the predecessor released last year. The phone has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865-soc with 8GB of memory and 128GB of storage. The battery has a capacity of 4000mAh and can charge via the USB PD standard.

In terms of camera, the set-up seems similar to the Xperia 1 II that appeared earlier this year, with 12-megapixel cameras with telephoto, wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle. The site confirms that the device will get a 3.5mm jack, unlike its predecessor. The phone can record in 4k at 120fps. The expected price is not yet known. The Xperia 5 came out a year ago for 800 euros.
