Software Update: XviD 1.1.0

The first beta release is already in mid-January, but today the final release of XviD 1.1.0 finally came out. XviD is an open-source video codec that allows files of acceptable size to be created without compromising too much on quality. As usual, only the source code is for Download available. The software is largely compatible with the previous stable release, only encoding in low resolutions is no longer supported. Below are all changes since version 1.0.3:

xvidcore:

  • Improved Low bit rate quality.
  • Improved VBV support
  • Rate-Distortion mode decision for bvops
  • New post-processing functions, brightness and dering
  • New PowerPC port by Christoph Naegeli
  • Brand new amd64 Linux 64bit port by Andre Werthmann
  • Various decoder and encoder speedups
  • A few bugs squashed

VFW front end

  • Mingw/CygWin support
  • Various minor improvements
  • A few bugs squashed

DShow front end

  • Mingw/CygWin support
  • Support for brightness control
  • Various minor improvements
  • A few bugs squashed
