Software Update: Wireshark 1.2.3

Version 1.2.3 of Wireshark was released on Wednesday, the second update before the version 1.2.0 released in mid-June. Wireshark is an open source protocol analyzer and packet sniffer, which can analyze and parse various network protocols and data packets on the network. The program can also use previously saved data traffic as input. Version 1.2.0, among other things, introduced separate downloads for 64-bit versions of Windows, added support for the c-ares resolver library, and improved support for Mac OS X. In this update, the developers have fixed three security vulnerabilities and one quite a few bug fixes. The full release notes can be found below:

Bug Fixes

• The Paltalk dissector could crash on alignment-sensitive processors. (Bug 3689)
• The DCERPC/NT dissector could crash.
• The SMB dissector could crash.

• Editcap -t and -w option parses fractional digits incorrectly. (Bug 4162)
