Software Update: Wine 1.1.29

A new development version of Wine was released on Wednesday. Normally a new build is released every other week on Friday. It has not been disclosed why this time it has been deviated from. Wine is an open source implementation of the Windows API. This makes it possible to run DOS and Windows programs on Linux, FreeBSD and Mac OS X, among others. The database with applications that work under Wine, with or without the help of some minor adjustments, it contains 12,550 titles at the time of writing: 65 more than in the previous version. What’s new in this release:

• Improved Gecko integration by using Wine’s network layers.
• Use of external libmpg123 for mp3 decoding.
• Support for JPEG and PNG formats in Windows Codecs.
• Many regression test fixes for Win64 and Windows 7.
