Software update: Webmin 1,500

Webmin will be provided with an update to version 1,500 on Monday. With this program a Unix-like system can be maintained and managed from a web browser. For example, it is possible to manage user accounts, change settings for Apache, MySQL and DNS and create file shares. Webmin consists of a simple web server supplemented with various CGI programs written in Perl 5. The software is released under the BSD license and is available in various flavors from this page to download. The following changes and improvements have been made in this release:

Changes in version 1.500

  • Added the Software Package Updates module, for installing new packages from YUM or APT.
  • Updated the default system information page to show available packages, and added a page to the Webmin Configuration module to collect this information in the background.
  • Added logging to the Scheduled Commands module.
  • Fixed editing of the fileset exclude list and adding volume labeling support to the Bacula module.
  • Improved Postfix TLS support, fixed the config file parser, and added protection against incorrect map entry deletion.
  • Added a status monitoring for detecting large directories, and a button for refreshing just selected monitors.
  • Added support for the rsyslog IncludeConfig directive in the System Logs module, used by default on Ubuntu 9.
  • Many more fixes and new features.
