Software update: Transmission 1.83

Transmission has released version 1.83 of its eponymous bittorrent client, its fourth release in less than two weeks. Transmission uses few resources, is platform independent, open source and has a simple and clear interface. The program was developed for use under Mac OS X, but on the download page versions for Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD and some NAS systems are also available. In version 1.80, support for magnet files and trackerless torrents has been added, among other things. However, the sharp edges are not completely gone and version 1.83 also contains, just like its two predecessors, only bug fixes:

• Fix 1.80 announce error that caused uploads and downloads to periodically freeze
• Fix 1.80 announce timeout error that caused “no response from tracker” message
• Fix 1.80 “file not found” error message that stopped some torrents
• Fix 1.82 crash when adding new torrents via their ftp URL
• Fix 1.80 crash when receiving invalid request messages from peers
• Fix 1.82 error when updating the blocklist
