Software Update: SoftPerfect Network Scanner 4.4.6

SoftPerfect has released a new version of Network Scanner. This program is a simple IP, NetBIOS and SNMP scanner. It does not need to be installed to do its job, so it can be used quickly and easily to see who and what is connected to the network. The program is multi-threaded and can see network shares, mac addresses, open ports and logged in users, among other things. The download is less than a megabyte and the program is completely free to use. Since version 4.4.3, the following changes have been made:

Changes in version 4.4.6:

• Added WOL manager button on the toolbar.
• Improved sorting in third-party applications in the options.
• Added passing host name to a third party application as %3.
• Added ignored IP addresses manager.
• Added /wolfile and /wakeall command-line switches related to Wake-On-LAN. See the manual for details.
• Added new MAC address discovery method. It works by querying the default gateway provided it is SNMP capable and enables you to determine MAC address of devices behind the router.
• Added a configurable delay between sending two WOL packets to avoid power consumption peaks.

Changes in version 4.4.5:

• Duplicated logon sessions are no longer shown as logged-on users.
• Added an option to expand shared folders automatically.
• Streamlined and improved WMI query mechanism (better performance and new Win32 classes).
• Automatic naming of new WMI items in WMI manager.
• Fixed showing security info for shared folders broken several builds ago.

Changes in version 4.4.4:

• Columns with last scan time, remote time/date and uptime are sorted properly (as time rather than as text).
• In HTML reports UNC links to shared folders now work in Firefox.
• Added ‘Paste IP’ button on the toolbar.
• Added sorting capability to WMI, remote services, files and registry managers.
• Added host name lookup options (FQDN / RDN) plus a better name resolution mechanism.
