Software Update: Skype for Windows 4.0.0.215

Skype has updated its eponymous VoIP client for Windows to version 4.0.0.215. In version 4.0, the appearance in particular has been overhauled. For example, the screen has become a lot bigger, finding new contacts and sending files should be easy. A ‘compact view’ has also been added, so that Skype can look like before. Furthermore, the sound quality has been worked on and several improvements have been made with regard to ‘video calling’. Version 4.0.0.215 is the first update released since version 4.0 went final, and the changelog mainly shows bug fixes:

• Informative messages appeared multiple times even when closed
• Disk I/O error message appeared intermittently
• Skype sometimes failed to install when Firefox was set as the default browser in the United States

• Some full-screen applications minimized automatically when Skype was running with the Skype visual style enabled
• If a user has Compact View enabled, opening a conversation from the tray alert does always open

• Tools menu was not fully visible in compact view on some window sizes
