Spread the love

For secure online conferences, you can use the Secure Internet Live Conferencing protocol, better known by its abbreviation SILC. The design is aimed from the outset to create a secure environment and includes many features of IRC and IM protocols. Support for multimedia messages is available and it can also be used for video and audio conferences. SILC Server is, as the name suggests, a server application for setting up an SLIC environment. The developers have released version 1.0.1 with the following announcement:

Summary of Changes:

  • Fixed crash bug in key exchange, authentication and rekey protocols.
  • Fixed channel private key mode remove bug.
  • Fixed statistics temp file creation in debug mode.
  • Other bug fixes were also made.

Known Issues in SILC Server:

  • Two or more servers with same IP must not be linked to same network, even if server ports are different. This is limitation in current implementation and may cause desync problems in the network.
  • Adding or removing listening interfaces (secondary interfaces in silcd.conf) does not work in rehash (rehash is kill -HUP ). Changing listening interfaces requires reboot of the server.
  • Router to router connections may not work as expected.
