Exchanging files over the internet is done in many different ways. Networks like KaZaA’s FastTrack and eDonkey’s large collection of servers are an important source for many people to download anything and everything. The major disadvantage of these methods of file sharing is that you cannot simply provide a link to a file on such a network on a website or in a chat channel. BitTorrent can do that. Very small files, called torrents, contain information about the file to be downloaded that allows the BitTorrent client to work with other clients to get this file. A received file is automatically prepared for sharing with other clients.

There is also a disadvantage to this way of sharing, especially for people who don’t have a lot of bandwidth available. After all, to be able to download you also have to be prepared to make your upload available, perhaps to people who are not that social themselves. The Shadow BitTorrent client partially solves this problem with its unique superseed feature. If this option is enabled, the client only passes on a small part of the file and waits for it to appear on at least 1 other client, so that no bandwidth is wasted.

The new version of Shadow BitTorrent is numbered 5.7.1, and includes the following improvements:
