Download GFI MailSecurity 8 freeware
In an effort to deal with the wave of viruses that has been mounting in recent times, antivirus company GFI has released a freeware version of their antivirus program MailSecurity. The software operates at the mail server, where it stops viruses and possibly also unwanted e-mail before it is delivered or sent. In this way, the company hopes to convince system administrators who have not yet protected their server. Unfortunately, not everyone can take advantage of BitDefender’s antivirus engine-based program: only Exchange and SMTP servers are supported.
The freeware release is basically a sixty day trial, after which not all functionality disappears as usual, but a simple check for viruses and junk e-mail remains available. The company writes the following about the technology of these controls:
The freeware version scans inbound and outbound mail using a single anti-virus engine, and can be used as additional protection by companies who do not yet perform virus scanning at mail sever level or at the gateway, and by those who run just one anti- virus engine. The freeware version can also check message bodies and subjects for keywords; this feature can be used to detect inappropriate mail.[break]Who wants to use the software must here just fill out a form.
