Managing a website can be a piece of cake, especially if you have a Content Managing System like Pivot running on your server. Pivot is a web-based interface that allows you to have complete control of your piece of cyberspace. The software includes a simple file editor and a user management system. The most striking feature of the CMS is that it does not use MySQL or related databases: data is stored in XML files and the program itself is built entirely in PHP. This means that people who do not have large servers at their disposal can also use the package.

The new release of Pivot is the second beta for version 1.0 and has been codenamed Sideswipe. A complete changelog doesn’t seem to be available, but the most important changes are clearly visible:

  • Moblog script is now included
  • You can now set permissions for users regarding what categories they’re allowed to post to
  • You can use RSS blocks
  • Integrated support for Blogrolling.com blogrolls
  • You can use multiple languages at the same time, including non-western languages
  • Inline Bodies and Inline comments (optional, off course)
  • New Bookmarklets screen
  • minilog.php is back!
  • Added support for sending Backpack strings Trackback pings.
