Software Update: pgAdmin III Beta 1

Spread the love

Anyone who has ever worked with PostgreSQL has undoubtedly heard of pgAdmin. This Open Source database management tool has been a very popular way to keep your PostgreSQL database under control, especially since the release of pgAdmin II. However, nothing is perfect, so the developers have started work on pgAdmin III, which has recently released its first beta.

Many improvements have been made. For example, the program is now based on the wxWindows framework. As a result, Linux and FreeBSD users can now also use the software. Later, support for more operating systems will be added.

pgAdmin III allows the user to browse database objects, create, crop and modify them as allowed by PostgreSQL, view and edit data, and run arbitrary SQL queries using an extremely fast multi-threaded query tool. Connection to multiple servers at once is supported, using PostgreSQL’s native libpq library. No ODBC layer is used, and connections may be SSL encrypted if required (this is automatic, based on pg_hba.conf settings).[break]Since the software is still in beta phase, full stability and reliability cannot be counted on yet. However, those who like to play with new stuff can do it here or else here get the desired flavor of pgAdmin III from.
