Outside the sun is shining, it is warm and sticky. What better to do in this weather than dusting off your old arcade console and playing a nice game of Astro Blaster. Fortunately, gamers who have long since ditched or never owned the old hardware won’t have to miss out, thanks to MAME.

MAME stands for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator and does exactly what the name says: it emulates a whole lot of old arcade consoles: right now there are 2319 games that can be played with the emulator. The emulator is maintained by a team of about a hundred people, which means that it is regularly updated. The latest release is MAME 0.72, which adds the game “Welcome aboard, Captain” to the collection of games:
