Software Update: PeaZip 3.0 Beta

On Wednesday, version 3.0 beta of PeaZip was released. This archiving program is available under an open source license and tries to differentiate itself from the competition by specializing in security. Encrypting data is therefore the spearhead of our own pea format. The program can create 7z, bz2, gz, paq/lpaq, pea, quad, tar, upx and zip files and extract various file formats including ace, arj, cab, deb, iso, lha , rar and rpm. The following changes and improvements have been made in this beta release:

File manager

  • Improved password request’s and error reporting messages
  • All reset functions (bookmarks, open with, theme etc) collected in Options > Settings main tab
  • It is now possible to configure the application (file associations, context menu and SendTo menu) from Options > Settings main tab, through InnoSetup scripts (for Windows and Win64 packages), whithout need to keep the installer

Extraction and archiving

  • Faster test for password routine before direct extraction
  • Multiple objects per instance implemented in context menu
  • “Add to archive”, “Add to .7z”, “Add to .zip”, and “Add to self-extracting archive”, adding multiple files at once, are now featured
  • “Extract…” now schedule all selected files so they can be extracted sequentially in a single instance of PeaZip
  • “Convert existing archives” is now enabled by default for “custom” format
  • various fixes to menus directly accessing to archive/extract mode
  • more information available in PeaLauncher while jobs are running, Pealauncher session’s options moved to “Options” tab

Windows installer

  • Updated Windows installer (new context menu items)
