Software Update: Newsleecher 4.00 Beta 3

While we had news about the second beta of NewsLeecher 4.00 on Tuesday morning, the next beta version of the program has already been released tonight. The third test build of the 4.00 build is from this location for Windows and comes with 11 improvements over the previous version. NewsLeecher is a program for reading newsgroup messages and downloading binaries via Usenet. The developers took a good look at programs like NewsBinPro, NewsPro, BNR, and GrabIt, then took the best points as the basis for NewsLeecher. The result is a program that, among other things, can download from multiple servers simultaneously, has support for yEnc encoding and can handle up to 99 threads simultaneously. The exact changelog looks like this:

• The ‘Go to download folder’ feature located in the queue popup menu, can now open the download folder in Windows Explorer instead of the NewsLeecher Explorer, by pressing CTRL, or Shift, while clicking the feature button.
• Redesigned the Repair’n’Extract ‘Change Destination Folder’ feature and added a shortcut to access it (CTRL+Y).
• Improved ‘Leech Specify’ to include an eventual group folder, as set in group properties dialog, when setting the default download destination folder.
• A few minor improvements here and there.
• Fixed bug introduced in V4 Beta 1, where the ‘Leech Specify’ feature didn’t include the groupname in the default destination folder, even though the ‘download to groupname folder’ option was used.
• When updating groups, not all articles were marked as ‘new’, even though they contained new article parts.
• Fixed bug introduced in previous beta, where Repair’n’Extract would delete non-archive files instead of moving them to the specified destination folder.
• Fixed bug where some articles weren’t marked as ‘old’ when the ‘Mark as Old’ feature was used:
• Fixed another bug that sometimes caused problems when updating the alt.binaries.boneless group on some servers.
• Some of the quick-search filter was broken is Beta 2. Fixed.
• Lots of smaller bug fixes (fixed a small memory leak, etc.)
