Software Update: Mozilla Thunderbird 78.1.0

Spread the love

The Mozilla Foundation has released version 78.1 of Thunderbird. Thunderbird is an open source client for e-mail and newsgroups, with features such as support for various mail and news accounts, a spam filter, spell checker and a customizable appearance. In version 78 we find, among other things, a dark mode and other parts of the interface, such as the icons and the screen for composing an email, have been taken care of. Furthermore, the Lightning calendar add-on is now a standard part of the program, there is a new wizard for the first use and only MailExtensions add-ons are supported. However, an automatic update from 68.x to 78.x should not work until version 78.2. The following improvements have been made in this release:

What’s New:

  • OpenPGP support is now feature complete. Improvements: new Key Wizard, online searching for OpenPGP keys, and more. OpenPGP is still disabled by default, to allow more time for testing, correctness, and localization.
  • The preferences tab now has a search field.

Changes:

  • Dark background in message reader is now disabled.

Fixes:

  • Thunderbird startup was slow when using folder color customizations with many folders. Previously configured colors will not be migrated.
  • Mail quota usage in status bar did not support terabyte folder sizes
  • Changing Junk mail settings with keyboard toggled wrong setting
  • Advanced IMAP server preferences not saved in Account Manager
  • Address book migration updates and fixes
  • Address book: Last Modified Date was not updated
  • Dark mode improvements
  • Various security fixes

Known Issues:

  • Mail header toolbar (Reply, Forward, Archive, Junk buttons) no longer configurable
  • Fixed width font not working in compose window
