Software Update: Google Chrome 2.0.158.0 Beta

Google has released a new beta version of its Chrome web browser. The browser has arrived at version 2.0.158.0, which is available via the developer preview channel can be downloaded. This release of Chrome includes improvements to WebKit, the engine Google uses for the browser to build web pages. Chrome is baked in such a way that each tab is run in its own process and can be used as a desktop application. Furthermore, the web browser is equipped with its own Javascript engine. Compared to the 1.0 series, the 2.0 branch has a number of new features. The browser is equipped with form autocomplete, full-page zoom and the use of profiles. Google Chrome’s Dev channel has been updated to version 2.0.158.0. This release fixes a few bugs. Most of the effort in the last week has been spent on passing layout tests that have been failing since we updated to a more recent version of WebKit; those changes may improve layout on some sites, but are mostly minor tweaks you won’t notice. That’s a roundabout way of saying, we probably didn’t fix the issue that’s been bugging you the most this week.
