Spread the love

FileZilla has released a new version of its eponymous open source FTP client, this time in beta. FileZilla is small, simple and yet complete. The program is popular due to its low system resource load. However, a common complaint is that passwords are stored unencrypted on the computer. FileZilla is available for Windows, Linux, and OS X, and can be downloaded from this page be downloaded in different versions.

Be careful with the default ‘recommended’ download, because that’s a Download Manager from SourceForge, which offers some optional offerings before getting the real installer. On the more download optionspage does contain clean installation files and this beta is also clean. Version 3.11.0.1 fixes a security issue, among other things:

Fixed vulnerabilities:

  • Reject Diffie-Hellman Groups smaller than 1024 bits when using FTP over TLS to protect against the Logjam attack

Bug fixes and minor changes:

  • Do not bind the source IP address of the data connection if the server is not configured properly
  • Deleting bookmarks from the bookmarks dialog no longer deletes the wrong bookmark
  • Fixed CPU compatibility issues on 64bit binaries
