Snap will release the second generation of its Spectacles glasses next week. It will be released immediately in the Benelux and will cost 175 euros. The biggest changes are that the glasses can also take pictures and that they are lighter than the previous version from a year and a half ago.

The second-generation Spectacles glasses have an unknown camera sensor that takes pictures at up to 2.7 megapixels. These are round photos with 1642×1642 pixels. The glasses make videos at 1216×1216 pixels at 60fps. The lens has an aperture of f/2.2 and an angle of view of 105 degrees.

The new glasses are also waterproof and can therefore also film in shallow water, Snap says. The manufacturer includes a case that can charge the glasses up to four times. The glasses themselves can make up to seventy ten-second videos on a battery charge. The battery capacity of the glasses and case are unknown.

The glasses weigh 44 grams and are therefore lighter than the previous version. In addition, it has been made slightly less noticeable, because the elements with the camera and the LEDs no longer have a yellow ring in the black version. It is available in various colors for 175 euros.

The first version of the glasses came out in the fall of 2016. Since the summer of last year, Spectacles is also available in the Benelux. The first pair of glasses proved to be a financial setback for Snap. The company wrote off $40 million because it had many copies produced that it couldn’t sell. Many people turned out to stop using the Spectacles glasses after a short time.
