Sharp has announced three new models in its UQ10 series. According to the manufacturer, the LCD televisions, which will be available in three variations from Monday, can also display UHD content in addition to HD. The entry-level model costs almost 2200 euros.

The manufacturer claims that the 60”, 70” and 80” televisions have 2.5 times as many subpixels as a regular HD television. By using those subpixels, the models could also display 4K content via HDMI. The resolution is vertically equal to uhd, but horizontally Sharp uses shared subpixels. The televisions also apply an upscaling technology called Smart Upscale. That technology could be particularly useful for lower-resolution DVDs and games, according to Sharp.

Sharp has used its Quattron Pro technology for the UQ10 series and added a yellow sub-pixel to the standard pixel colors of red, green and blue. The addition of that subpixel would improve the color nuance.

With the new models in the UQ10 series, Sharp is targeting consumers who want to watch UHD content, but who still find UHD TVs too expensive. The cheapest model in the series has a suggested retail price of 2199 euros, the most expensive 7299 euros.
