Sega will remove the Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic CD games from digital shelves on May 20. The company is doing this for the release of Sonic Origins, a bundle that contains remastered versions of these games and will be released on June 23.

In a short message, Sega . writes that only the individual games are withdrawn from sale. Older versions of the mentioned Sonic games released as part of other bundles will continue to be available after May 20. For example, Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2 will continue to be available via Sega Ages on Nintendo Switch, and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will still be playable via the Nintendo Switch Online expansion pack.

However, this does mean that the individual versions of Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic CD will disappear from Steam. The Steam versions of the games each cost 4.50 euros each. Also, Sonic 2 and Sonic CD will soon be discontinued separately on Xbox consoles. Both games are 4.80 euros each on those platforms.

Sega doesn’t say why it’s pulling the older versions from sale. It probably has to do with the release of Sonic Origins on June 23. The game comes out for PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox consoles, and PlayStation consoles. The standard version of the bundle will cost 40 euros. There will also be a deluxe version for 45 euros and two expansions have been announced, the prices of which are not yet known.
