Screenshots show BeReal-like feature in Facebook Messenger

Screenshots have appeared of the Facebook Messenger feature Roll Call, which is reminiscent of the functionality of competitor BeReal. In addition, users can only see each other’s photos if they have shared a photo themselves first.

The ‘Roll Call’ has a timer of five minutes, according to the screenshots by Matt Navara, former editor of The Next Web. He wrote more often for Applied Sciences about tests of social media companies. The feature works because one of the users within a group chat starts it. Then the rest have five minutes to take a photo and contribute to the ‘Roll Call’. The user who starts can also give it a command, such as ‘show your lunch’.

This makes Roll Call different from BeReal in several ways. That social medium sends all users a notification at the same random time of the day asking them to take a photo without an assignment. In addition, BeReal takes a photo with front and back cameras, while Facebook Messenger takes a single photo.

Meta confirms to The Verge the function’s internal test. Messenger isn’t the only app from Meta that would get a BeReal-like feature. That would also happen with Instagram. It is still unknown when Roll Call will be released.
