Samsung recommends that owners of Qled TVs manually scan for malware on a regular basis to detect infections with malicious software. Users should do this every few weeks according to the manufacturer.

On Twitter reports the support department of Samsung USA that with Qled TVs ‘if they are connected via Wi-Fi’ it is important to regularly scan for malware, just like with computers. In a short video, the electronics company explains how users should do this.

Through the settings and System Manager, users can open the Smart Security component and run a scan there. Samsung TVs have had such a scanning function to detect malware since 2016, but Samsung did not actively recommend that you scan manually at intervals of several weeks. In the background, Smart Security also protects against attacks, Samsung announced in 2016.

In recent years, it has regularly been in the news that TVs are in principle infectable, although large-scale malware attacks on TVs do not seem to have taken place yet. Samsung has also been placing McAfee Security for TV on its TVs since the beginning of this year.

Update, 16.45: Samsung deleted the tweet.

Update Tuesday, 14.30: Samsung released the following statement on the advisory: “Samsung takes security very seriously. Our products and services are designed with security in mind. We recently shared information about one of the preventive security features on our smart TVs with the aim of consumer can take proactive steps with the device. We would like to make it clear that we showed the consumer an existing functionality of our product through the Twitter message.”
