Samsung has presented an 8GB memory module for smartphones and tablets. The manufacturer aims at producers who want to provide their devices with 4k screens. Such devices benefit greatly from a large working memory.

The 8GB ram is of the lpddr4-type, says Samsung. The South Korean giant produces the memory in a process between ten and twenty nanometers, which Samsung calls ’10nm-class’. The memory operates at a maximum of 4266Mbit/s and is specifically suitable for devices with 4k screens that, among other things, have VR applications or need to be able to run virtual machines, says the manufacturer.

The memory is intended for “flagship products of the next generation”, Samsung further claims. For example, the OnePlus 3 and some other smartphones this year used the 6GB module announced last year. Samsung’s own high-end smartphones, such as the S7, S7 Edge and Note 7, did not. Samsung kept the memory at 4GB for its own models.
