Samsung and LG Display are temporarily stopping negotiations on the supply of cheaper OLED panels. Samsung was planning to purchase OLED panels for televisions from competitor LG, but the two companies were again unable to reach an agreement.

“Our new customer [Samsung Electronics] wanted to use our OLED panels. Although there was some progress [in de onderhandelingen]the process has come to a halt at the moment,” said LG Display CFO Kim Sung-hyun during the recent earnings call. It is possible that negotiations will resume at a later date.

According to a source of Korea Bizwire the two South Korean tech giants would not have been able to reach an agreement on the price of the panels. It is not the first time that those involved have mentioned that disagreement about prices is a stumbling block. In any case, information is regularly released about the potentially historic deal between the two companies.

The long-awaited deal between Samsung and LG could shake up the television market. As by far the largest TV producer in the world, Samsung could potentially tap into a large new target group with cheaper OLED televisions. For the time being, the manufacturer only has a few TVs based on organic diodes in its range, many of which use QD OLED technology. These televisions are still quite expensive in practice.
