Rumor: Ubisoft Is Working On New Splinter Cell With Voice Actor Michael Ironside

Publisher Ubisoft may be working on a new Splinter Cell game. The company would once again have called in Michael Ironside to provide the voice of main character Sam Fisher. Ironside also held that role in the first five games in the franchise.

The rumor comes from Neogaf user Crossing Eden, who has proven reliable in the past regarding leaked information from Ubisoft. One of his contacts is said to have encountered Michael Ironside at a publisher’s development studio in Toronto, Canada. “I also know that the Toronto location has the motion capture studio to make the game,” he says. In an update, possibly from another source, Crossing Eden adds that on a movie set in the city itself, Ironside also told colleagues that he was working on a new Splinter Cell.

The last game in the series, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, was released about three years ago. The decision to re-enlist Michael Ironside is somewhat surprising, as it brings Ubisoft back to its decision to hire a new voice actor. Eric Johnson took over at Blacklist. Why this was done is unknown, but along with the new voice actor, players got to see a much younger-looking Sam Fisher than in previous games, so Ironside may have sounded too old for the new design, which can be seen on the right, according to Ubisoft. Reviewers were not very positive about the bill.

Crossing Eden emphasizes that his sources have not been able to see any concrete content materials of the new Splinter Cell, which would indicate that if this rumor is true, the development of the new game is still in an early phase. It would be unclear which studio is working on the game, as Ubisoft studios often collaborate with each other and the use of a mocap studio in Toronto therefore does not give a definitive indication of which studio is primarily responsible.
