An upcoming version of the Nintendo Switch, which should be released this year, will have a 7″ OLED screen from Samsung with 720p resolution. According to financial news agency Bloomberg. The Switch and Switch Lite have LCDs with a 720p resolution.

It is a rigid OLED screen and therefore not a flexible screen, Bloomberg reports. The prices of the rigid screens are lower than before, because smartphone makers mainly want flexible OLED screens. Samsung has been using the flexible screen since the Galaxy S8 in 2017 to be able to fold the display controller into the housing below the screen, which means that the screen edge at the bottom can be thinner. Since the end of 2017, this technology has also been used in iPhones with an OLED screen and in many other smartphones.

The new Switch would have a Samsung screen with a 7″ diagonal, which is larger than the Switch’s 6.2″ LCD and the Switch Lite’s 5.5″ screen. The resolution would be the same at 720p As with the previous Switch consoles, in a dock, the new version could show games at 4k, which the Switch can’t.

The new version of the Switch should be released later this year, before the holidays. There have been rumors about a Switch Pro for some time and Nintendo itself left open the possibility of a new version later this year.
