The Chinese manufacturer Huawei is said to be in talks with Samsung to use Tizen OS for smartwatches. Huawei would receive little cooperation from Google to adjust Android Wear to its own taste, while Samsung is open to it.

Both companies would work together to tailor Tizen OS to Huawei’s needs, the South Korean newspaper Korea Herald reported. It would be the first time that another manufacturer from the mobile market has collaborated with Samsung on Tizen. The South Korean manufacturer’s Gear S series runs on Tizen, including the new Gear S3s.

Huawei has so far made a smartwatch, the Huawei Watch on Android Wear. It came out a year ago. The Chinese hardware maker previously confirmed that it has no plans to come up with a successor based on Google’s watch operating system soon.

Unlike Android for smartphones and tablets, manufacturers are allowed to make few adjustments to the interface and functions of Android Wear. It was precisely these customization options that contributed to manufacturers deciding years ago to develop smartphones with Android.
