A Chinese site has published what is believed to be a “box shot” showing many of the HTC U 11’s specs. The case is said to be water resistant with an ip57 rating. It is the first time that HTC has given a high-end smartphone for the western market this protection.

An ip57 rating means that the housing is protected against dust and the phone can also go to a depth of one meter for half an hour. The water resistance is on a ‘box shot’ that the Chinese site MySmartPrice Gear has published.

Water resistance has become a standard feature on many expensive phones in recent years. Galaxy S devices from recent years have an IP68 rating – which is dust-free and usable underwater – and Apple’s iPhone 7 series has a water-resistant housing with an IP67 rating. LG has also released a high-end model with the G6 with an IP68 rating. Sony has been making its more expensive smartphones water resistant and dustproof since 2013.

The image further shows that the HTC U 11 will have an UltraPixel 3 camera with UltraSpeed AF. This indicates that the manufacturer has built in a fast way of focusing for the camera, although it is unknown what that is. According to the image, the camera has a sensor with a maximum resolution of twelve megapixels and a lens with an aperture of f/1.7.

Other details have already emerged in previous rumours. The U 11 gets touch-sensitive sides to control the device by squeezing. The 5.5″ LCD has a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels and the phone gets a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835-soc.

HTC has planned a presentation for in two weeks. The teasers point out that the manufacturer will present its new high-end phone at that time.
