The American eBay is considering the sale of its subsidiary PayPal, reports an American tech site. Earlier, an investor called on eBay to divest the payment service, but eBay did not respond.

Earlier, eBay CEO John Donahoe said that PayPal is an integral part of eBay, but according to the American tech site The Information, a sale is still being considered. eBay would have indicated this in conversations with potential new PayPal CEOs. The current PayPal CEO announced in June that he would be leaving Facebook.

Venture investor Carl Icahn previously called on eBay to get rid of PayPal; in the end, Icahn failed in his efforts to make it happen. According to some investors, PayPal could grow more as an independent company because it would make the tool more attractive to eBay’s competitors. eBay bought PayPal in 2002 for $1.5 billion.
