Rumor: Apple is testing dual front camera for next-generation iPhones

Apple is testing a dual front camera system for iPhones. That reports financial news agency Bloomberg based on its own sources. The iPhone 7 Plus has a dual camera on the back.

Bloomberg does not mention what users can use the dual front camera for, but it would, for example, make the portrait mode, which is now in the iPhone 7 Plus, accessible for selfies. Until now, front cameras on iPhones have always had one lens. The cameras for the next generation of iPhones are said to come from Sony, which has been making camera sensors for iPhones for years.

It wouldn’t be the first time that a phone gets a dual front camera. LG, for example, has the V10 with a dual front camera, which allows wider self-portraits thanks to a different angle of view. Several Chinese manufacturers have also made phones with dual front cameras.

Apple has problems with the production of the iPhone with an OLED screen, according to Bloomberg. For example, suppliers would not be able to make enough copies of the strongly convex glass, which Apple wants to place on the back of the device. The OLED screen will be flat, but the glass over it will be curved, the news agency reports. Like Samsung, Apple wants to integrate the fingerprint scanner into the screen, but the production of such ultrasonic scanners turns out to be more difficult than expected.

The American company invariably presents its iPhones in the autumn and has released them in September each time in recent years. However, the iPhone with OLED screen will take longer due to production problems, according to Bloomberg. In addition, two models with LCDs of 4.7″ and 5.5″, such as the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus now appear.
