Rumor: AMD Radeon R9 380 cards get ‘Grenada’ GPU

AMD is going to build the Radeon R9 380 and 380X around the Grenada GPU, which would actually be a rebrand of Hawaii. The Radeon R9 390 and 390X get the Fiji video chip. That is what 3dcenter claims, at least based on information from manufacturers.

The German tech site 3dcenter has made an overview of rumors about the upcoming Radeon Rx 300 line of video cards. In doing so, the site draws on new information from graphic card manufacturers, the site’s forum and VR-Zone, supplemented by its own speculation. Videocardz adds its own information to complete the possible line-up.

The Radeon R9 395X2 would only appear in the fall or winter of this year and then have two Fiji GPUs, which AMD would refer to under the name Bermuda. The R9 390X and 390 will arrive at the end of the second quarter of 2015, if the rumors are true, and these models will be equipped with a Fiji video chip. All these cards will have hbm: stacked dram that should provide more bandwidth and lower consumption.

Furthermore, Videocardz expects the arrival of an R9 385X, provided that the Fiji XT will indeed have 4096 cores. An R9 385X with 3328 cores should then fill the gap between the R9 390 and R9 380 models. Those R9 380 and R9 380X are said to have a Grenada Pro and XTX chip respectively. These are rebrands of the current Hawaii GPU, which at most will have lower consumption and higher clock speeds.

Finally, the lower segments would be served by Tonga and Trinidad GPUs. The Tonga XT would have more cores and a wider memory bus than the Tonga GPU of the existing Radeon R9 285.
