AMD is reportedly coming with a new video card, which is equipped with a Hawaii XTX GPU, an extended version of the Hawaii XT. The latter forms the basis of the Radeon R9 290X. The new card may have four Compute Units more than the 290X, for a total of 3,072 cores.

The arrival of the card is reported by Videocardz, which has proven to have good resources from video card manufacturers in the past. The name of the card and the specifications are still unknown, but the site says it has reason to believe that the card with Hawaii XTX GPU will get 48 Compute Units. The number of cores thus amounts to 3072 and the number of tmu’s would have increased to 192 compared to the R9 290X. The number of rops would remain the same at 64.

While the name is still unknown, a name like R9 295X seems likely. AMD previously used the xx5 designation for new variants of video cards. The card should compete with the GeForce GTX Titan Black and the GTX 780 Ti. There have been rumors for some time that not all functionality was activated with the Hawaii XT GPU.

If the rumors are true, the R9 295X will be AMD’s fastest single-GPU card. The fastest card remains the R9 295 X2, with two GPUs.
