Rocket League players criticize high prices in new loot system

Rocket League players are complaining about the prizes associated with the introduction of the new loot system. The old Crates have been replaced by blueprints, and in order to build things with them, the purchase of Credits is necessary. According to players, those prices are very high.

On Reddit, among others, Rocket League players are complaining about the new system and in particular the prices that are asked for the Credits. GameRevolution writes that 500 Credits now cost 5 dollars, after which the next options are 1100, 3000 and 6500 Credits, for 10, 25 and 50 dollars respectively. In practice, this means that if, for example, a player wants to get a new set of wheels with a price of 1600 Credits, they will have to pay $15. A Crate could already be opened with the old in-game economy of Rocket League by buying a key for about a dollar, or by leveling up by playing the game.

On Reddit, several players believe that these changes and the high prices are the result of the influence of Epic Games, the maker of Fortnite, among others, who enlisted Rocket League developer Psyonix earlier this year. A player states that the current amounts to be spent to open a Crate correspond to the amounts Fortnite players are willing to put down for a new skin. Previously, Psyonix compared the introduction of blueprints and thus the adjustment of the loot box system to a similar change that Epic Games made in Fortnite: Save the World.

Player criticism has also centered on the fact that the in-game economy is now turned upside down as random items are no longer available. Previously, no one knew what he was getting, so the value of an individual Crate was about the price of one key. The chance that a rare item was in a crate was not high, but as a player you could not spend much more than a relatively cheap key at a time. Now Psyonix has valued all items, with the most unusual items costing $20 to obtain them.

In August it became clear that Psyonix would replace the old system of loot boxes in the form of Crates and Keys with Blueprints and Credits. This change has been in effect since Wednesday. Players know exactly what they get from the blueprints, and can ‘build’ the items based on a fixed number of credits displayed.
