AndroidPolice has made a render based on sources that shows the design of the new Nexus smartphones. Both the small and the large model will have a metal housing, only the size of the smartphones would differ.
The render that AndroidPolice has published is not a leaked image, but its own creation. The website says it has received information about the appearance of the smartphones from a ‘very reliable source’. The website may have seen a photo of the Nexus’s, but it cannot be published to protect the source.
The render shows one smartphone, from the front and back. According to AndroidPolice, the design of the Nexus Marlin with 5.5″ screen and the smaller 5″ model Sailfish is the same except for the screen size. Google would therefore opt for the same strategy as Apple does with the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, for example. Also in terms of specifications, there is probably little difference between the two new Nexus smartphones.
“As far as we know, the smartphones have an aluminum housing,” says AndroidPolice. The website says it is almost certain, because the most expensive model will be touted in aluminum color with a white front. The render shows a black version with gray back. Furthermore, AndroidPolice says that there may be a variant with a white front and glossy blue back.
It is not known how thick the devices will be, but the camera would not protrude from the housing. At the back, just like the Nexus 6P, the upper part is made of glossy plastic or glass.
According to the website, there are still some uncertainties about the design. The ‘G’ on the back may be omitted from the final design and it is still unclear whether an HTC logo will be placed on the devices. AndroidPolice thinks this won’t be the case. The website does not have precise measurements and ‘some edges and curves’ could still be slightly different.
HTC is probably the maker of both Nexus smartphones. In previous years, Google had the large and small Nexus made by different manufacturers. For example, the 6P is made by Huawei and LG is responsible for the 5X. Google is expected to announce the new Nexus smartphones before the end of September, when Android 7.0 Nougat is also released.
AndroidPolice has a good track record of such rumors and renders. The website previously made a render of the Nexus 6, before the smartphone was announced. It later turned out to correspond almost exactly to the real design.
