Qualcomm has announced the second generation of its entry-level SoCs, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 Mobile Platform. The chip should be released later this year in budget smartphones, including in yet-to-be-announced realme and vivo devices.

The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip is made on a 4nm process and is according to Qualcomm focused on efficiency. The SoC contains a total of eight Kryo processor cores: two performance cores with a clock frequency of 2.2GHz and six energy-efficient cores with a speed of 2.0GHz. The boost clock frequency is therefore about 10 percent higher than the Gen 1 variant. In addition to Lpddr4x memory, the processor platform now also supports Lpddr5x ram with speeds of 2133 and 3200MHz respectively. The company once again uses an unspecified Adreno GPU.

Qualcomm incorporated its own Snapdragon Furthermore, when it comes to the camera, there is a focus on AI-enabled features. According to the company, the SoC could take better photos in the dark, capture the backgrounds of photos and videos more sharply and enable faster autofocus compared to last year’s Gen 1. Further specifications for camera functions remain the same. For example, the maximum resolution for one camera is 108 megapixels. The maximum screen resolution will be slightly higher, namely 1200 x 2520 instead of 1080 × 2520 pixels.
