Purism has announced the Librem 14. This is a laptop with a 14″ screen that, thanks to its narrow screen bezels, has similar dimensions to the Librem 13 with a 13.3″ screen. The laptop also has a more powerful processor than its predecessor.

The processor is the Core i7-10710U hexacore from Intel’s Comet Lake generation, where the last generation of the Librem 13 was delivered with a Core i7-7500U dual core from the Kaby Lake series. The 14″ screen is matte and has an IPS panel with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. The dimensions are at a claimed 322x220x17mm comparable to the 325x219x18mm of the 13.3″ predecessor and the weight is identical at 1.4 kilograms.

The Librem 14 is the successor to the Librem 13 and that laptop has disappeared from the Purism website. With the Librem 14, Purism says it is building on the experience it has gained with the four generations of the Librem 13. As with that laptop, it is a system that focuses on security functions. The new laptop also has the protected PureBoot firmware, disables the Intel Management Engine, runs the Debian-based PureOS and offers the possibility to disable the webcam and microphone hardware.

Purism provides the laptop with up to 32GB of RAM and there are two SATA and one M2 interfaces for storage. There is also HDMI and two USB 3.1 ports of type a and one of type c. The usb-c connection supports the displayport alt mode. For internet connections there is a gigabit Ethernet port and the laptop offers support for WiFi-n.

Purism is taking pre-orders for $1,199, but that price will be higher with wide availability. The company promises to start delivery in the fourth quarter of this year.
