Plex has completely revamped its application for iOS. For example, the interface has been overhauled and several new functions have been added to the software. Among other things, improved content synchronization technology has been built in, which should make this much faster.

The new Plex application for iOS is available to download for free from the App Store. This free version can be used, among other things, as a remote control or for automatically backing up photos taken with an iPhone’s camera. However, most functionality has to be paid for and can now be done with an in-app purchase. Those who have previously purchased a paid version of Plex do not need to make an in-app purchase.

Plex states that the software has been rebuilt from the ground up with new technologies. That is why the release also requires version 8.1 of iOS and it is necessary to run a recent version of Plex Media Server, the makers say. The novelty is reflected, among other things, in the interface, which has been completely customized. In addition, content browsing has also been revamped.

In addition to a new interface, there are also a number of new functions on board. For example, there is support for chapter selection in video files. If the chapter information is missing, it is possible to retrieve this data from ChapterDB. Furthermore, Rotten Tomatoes ratings have been built in and the sync technology has been improved. The latter should ensure that content is synchronized faster; users have been complaining about the speed and reliability of this feature for quite some time. A full overview of the new app can be found on Plex’s blog.
