Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, the popular battle royale shooter from South Korean PUBG Corp, will initially run at 30fps on all Xbox One consoles. Lead developer Brendan Greene first stated that the game would tap 60fps on the One X, but this is not correct.

In an interview with GamesTM, Greene had stated that the game on the Xbox One X would certainly reach and maintain 60fps, but in a tweet on Friday he takes back his words. At the time of console release, he says it’s too early in the game’s development to get that extra 30fps out of the One X, but the team “always continues to explore options.”

It is plausible that in the future an update would lift the performance to 60fps on the One X, as it simply has significantly more powerful hardware on board than the Xbox One and One S. The game will be released for Xbox on December 12.

On the Windows side of the game, PUBG Corp. still tinkers with the game’s performance. For example, in the beta version of the game, the frame rates are disappointing at certain times, relative to the visual quality of what is displayed. In the experimental builds that are occasionally playable for gamers, that is much less of an issue. The 1.0 build of the Windows version should also be released this month.
