Photos have been put online of the Panasonic Lumix G9, a high-end system camera. A 200mm f/2.8 lens from Leica can be seen along with the camera. Presumably, Panasonic will officially announce the products on Wednesday.

The photos were posted online by 43rumors and the Japanese Nokishita blog. It is striking that the sensor appears to be almost square, but it is not yet clear whether the Panasonic G9 will actually have a different sensor size. In any case, the device has a micro four thirds mount.

The camera is rumored to have a 20-megapixel sensor and the device can shoot at 20fps with full autofocus. By fixing the autofocus to one point, even 60fps would be achievable in full resolution. Furthermore, there would be a new system for image stabilization in the housing, which should yield up to 6.5 stops. The 200mm f/2.8 lens shown has image stabilization and has a Leica design.

The camera seems to have dimensions that are approximately comparable to those of the Panasonic GH5. That top model from the Japanese camera manufacturer is mainly aimed at making videos. The G9 looks set to be a high-end model focused on photography. The housing would get a new large electronic viewfinder and be resistant to water and frost.
