Free-to-play game Overwatch 2 will not have loot boxes, while the first game still had them. Instead, the multiplayer shooter will get seasons that last a few months, during which players can purchase a Battle Pass to get new content.

Blizzard says that by removing loot boxes, players have more control over how they play the game and can obtain new content. With the seasonal model, Blizzard also says it wants to bring content to the game on a regular basis. With every season, new skins should come to the game, including Mythic Skins. These Mythic Skins are rarer and more ‘extreme’ skins compared to the existing Legendary Skins.

At least one playable Hero must come to the game every two seasons. In the season when no Hero comes to the game, the game must get a new map. Blizzard says it has two Support and a Tank hero in development. The new maps should feel like they take place in the not-too-distant future, in places like Rio de Janeiro and Portugal.

It is not clear how much the new Battle Passes and store content will cost. Overwatch 2 will release in early access on October 4, then the first season starts. The game gets three new heroes, six maps and thirty new skins. Blizzard also wants to bring new game modes to the game, including Push and a pve mode. The second season will start on December 6.
